Weekend Tew Dew

First, the concert roundup, then music news afterwards.
Here’s the music worth going to see this weekend, in order from North to South.
If I missed any big shows, let me know.

Ray’s Downtown
Saturday:
$10
Sacramento, CA based emo screamers Dance Gavin Dance bring their Hot Topicy-laden angst to West Palm along with LoveHateHero, Blinded Black, Kenotia, VersaEmerge. Go heavy on the eyeliner.

Respectable Street
Saturday nights they do their SubPOP party, I’ve yet to check it out, but I’ve heard it’s fun.
Kravis Center
Saturday night that skinny little bugger Clay Aiken is rocking out the Kravis Center, I’m sure tickets are a hundred bucks or so, maybe more, probably less. This show is highly recommended for those riddled with guilt who want to torture themselves and their wallets.

City Limits
Friday night there’s a Reggae band, Ruffhouse, I saw them once in Miami and they’re one of the better one’s around.

Mizner Park
Headlining the Wicked Gamer show Saturday night is Chris Isaak!

Alligator Alley
Kilmo’s playing bass tonight with the Young Lions, but the real time to head to the Alley is Sunday afternoon once your hangover has worn off. At 3 p.m. Kilmo is grilling up Burgers and Dogs for a buck each and $2 longnecks. Nucklebusters and a slew of bands are playing. It should be a great way to end a weekend.

Culture Room
I don’t know why, but this entire weekend is dedicated to Perpetual Groove at Culture Room. Is it because that’s how long it takes this jam band to wrap up a set? I think you can buy a ticket package to go both nights.

Churchill’s
Boy Prostitute is playing with about 1500 other bands tonight.
Sunday is a massive Battle of the Bands, Ride Zombie Ride will be playing, along with Malcontents. I don’t know any of the other bands.

I stopped by Karaoke night at Shea’s Irish Pub in Boynton Beach Thursday night. What a strange crowd. Of course I remember when the place was Red Lion and they had kickass punk concerts there every night. A little old lady, who seemed to be in charge, assured me that the brightly lit and subdued environment was far superior to the old school Irish punk bar. We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one. But, the food is a lot better now.
The Sheas coming from the closed Red Lion got me thinking about all these bars closing:
This is coming kind of late, it’s been a bit since I’ve been there, but what looked like a weekend emergency closing at Billabong has turned into permanent shutdown, or at least until further notice. That sucks.
In other closing news, Club M is rumored to have shut their doors. I haven’t been there to knock on the door or talk to Bob, the owner, but after I heard the news I checked their website and it says they’re on hiatus until the end the end of September.
Blondies reopened as Dirty Blondes not too long ago, it's basically the same with newer TVs.

What shows are you going to this weekend?
