Adventures in GatorLand

Okay, this post has been a couple months in the making, but I had to hold back.

These images were originally for a New Times story that fell apart because I had a hard time pulling all the factors together, and then I got a new job at Six Degrees.

So, background story:

Twisty and I went for a drive and ended up out at Big Cypress Preserve out on Alligator Alley, while out there we came across a four-foot gator who had been shot in the face and left for dead. The tail was removed at the base and it was covered in vultures (I have some awesome pics of that also by the way, check my very first post). So, I start doing research on how gators are processed, and by whom.

I come across this guy who has a gator slaughterhouse, call him up and then show up and take some pics. While I'm there this guy starts breaking down a gator that was alive only a few hours before. The gator is a small guy, maybe six feet, and it only takes an hour for him to be turned from a full gator with a stab wound in its spine into a pile of bone and gut.

So, without further jibber jabber, here are a few of the 200+ pics I took of this gators last stand. I don't think I need to make any comments, just use your eyeballs:

I still remember every second of that.
